Summary of the Order/Judgment
A special leave petition under Article 136 of the Constitution of India was filed by the States of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala against the final order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal. While the matters were pending, an interlocutory application was filed in the hearings of the petition by Tamil Nadu, Civil Appeal No. 2456 of 2007, after the award of the Tribunal was published in 2013, for the setting up of a supervisory committee for its implementation, as directed by the Tribunal.
The Supreme Court directed the setting up of a supervisory committee, with the Secretary, Union Ministry of Water Resources as Chairman and the Chief Secretaries of the respective States of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and the Union Territory of Puducherry as members.
